Our grief support group is designed to help support and heal the wounds of folks who may have experienced a significant loss. Remember loss not only stems from a death but also from the loss of dreams, a job, health, money, having children and many more events. Also be aware that losses happen in our life and we keep on going, and not taking time to heal the loss. So no matter how long ago was your loss, you are welcome to join us.

Grief is a natural reaction, often manifesting itself in a bewildering cluster of ordinary human emotions in response to any significant loss. Grief in our society is tends to be suppressed which can often  lead to breakdowns in physical and emotional health. This can be avoided by working with a therapist or a grief support group to help heal the losses from the past.

Grieving people need: empathy, to be with somebody who understands their pain, community support, and education that grief is a healthy response to loss.

If you know someone who is suffering from grief, please pass along information about our grief group. Thank you for helping our community heal.

What we will cover:

·         We will look at a healthy response to grief

·         Understanding the many faces of loss

·         Becoming aware of the five phases of grief

·         Steps to help cope through each phase of grief

·         How to move out of the crisis mode

This event is open to all who have had any significant loss. This could include:

·         Bankruptcy

·         Divorce and all other break ups

·         Loss of health

·         Loss of a job

·         A death of a loved one

·         Loss of dreams how we thought our life was going to evolve

·         Loss of a pet

·         And any other loss you may personally have experienced

Tuesday, May 8, 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm

An Introduction to the Grief Journey

We will look at the five phases of grieving. We will incorporate holistic approaches like Bach remedies, aromatherapy, acupressure, meditation and homeopathy to help cope during this difficult transitional period.

Tuesday June 12, 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm

Identifying and Dealing with Grief Triggers

How often were you feeling fine and out of the blue, you burst into a grief explosion? This workshop will help you understand the triggers that will bring up the sense of loss. Once you begin to understand the triggers you will be able to alter the response and the behavior that often follows. Learn how to transform the triggers to a positive behavior. We will also look at the role of journaling to process uncomfortable emotions.

Triggers:

Have you ever woken up happy and motivated, only to be hit by a sudden sense of doom? A cloud hangs over your head, and you feel down, depressed, anxious, and hopeless.

When it comes to processing grief  and loss, many factors can be a trigger for you to burst into tears or blow up like a volcano.

This evening will deal with how to learn to identify triggers and diffuse them.

A trigger is something in the present that resonates with something similar from the past and it may happen faster than a nanosecond. The event in the present has the potential to bring up all of your feelings from the past. You can learn to change your response to this trigger.

We will look at  journaling to help process your feelings of loss. Journaling is a great tool to process emotions but most folks do not know how to get started. This workshop will give you all the tools to start journaling and start clearing negative events when you go home.

The evening will conclude with a guided meditation to heal loss and bring in peace.

We look forward to assisting one and all in their healing journey.

Rev. Alexandra Gellman

Among them, as other sources tell us, were the monsters Leviathan and Behemoth. This illustrated lecture will show depictions of these monstrous creatures in ancient Near Eastern art, and how they survived in rabbinic sources.

April Services Recap Plus Upcoming Sunday Service Schedule

Service with Rev. Terry Weller, held Sunday April 1st, 2012

The Renewing Power of Creation Spirituality. Four Steps Encompassing the Experience of Personal ‘Dying’ and Life Renewal. During the following week two great world religions will re-enact their stories of personal descent into darkness and the journey back into the light. Our creative and transformative expressions are born of this journey. Creation Spirituality captures this entry into darkness and return to the light of re-creation. Let’s explore the four ancient pathways of Creation Spirituality. It brings us back to a connection with the earth, and with our own cyclical nature. We will experience our own personal transitions through:

  • The Joy of Life
  • The Darkness that Tastes of Death
  • Followed by re-birth through our own creativity
  • and culminating in transformational work within ourselves and as co-creators with God in the world

Jewish Mysticism, held Sunday, April 15, 2012

    • Mysticism was taught only to those who had already learned Torah and Talmud • Jewish mysticism is known as kabbalah, and part of it was written in the Zohar • Kabbalah and its teachings have been distorted by mystics and occultists

Mysticism and mystical experiences have been a part of Judaism since the earliest days. The Torah contains many stories of mystical experiences, from visitations by angels to prophetic dreams and visions. The Talmud considers the existence of the soul and when it becomes attached to the body. Jewish tradition tells that the souls of all Jews were in existence at the time of the Giving of the Torah and were present at the time and agreed to the Covenant. There are many stories of places similar to Christian heaven and purgatory, of wandering souls and reincarnation. The Talmud contains vague hints of a mystical school of thought that was taught only to the most advanced students and was not committed to writing. There are several references in ancient sources to ma’aseh bereishit (the work of creation) and ma’aseh merkavah (the work of the chariot [of Ezekiel's vision]), the two primary subjects of mystical thought at the time.In the middle ages, many of these mystical teachings were committed to writing in books like the Zohar. Many of these writings were asserted to be secret ancient writings or compilations of secret ancient writings. To learn more join us on Sunday, June 3.

The 10 Commandments – Still the Golden Rule for Today

At our service Sunday March 4, 2012, Rev. David Gellman’s presentation explored the literal and metaphorical meaning of the 10 commandments, and showed that they are still to this day, a relevant guide for spiritual realization, and a resource for boosting your spiritual energy.

If you feel resistance towards one of the commandments, it may indicate an area that needs your attention and is something to work on.

The first three commandments focus on our relationship with a higher power – God, or Goddess or your universal spirit entity while the other seven are more in relation to ourselves and our fellow inhabitants of the earth.

Here is a short recap of Rev. David’s analysis: “Commandments 10.1 – The Upgrade”

    1.  Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

This is about honouring the source of everything within you and in the universe. Your relationship to your higher power is a personal thing – for God lives within you.  it also represents your potential which also is unlimited.

    2.  Thou shalt not make unto me any graven image.

This is about putting people, substances or things on a pedestal and putting your faith in that.  you may want to ask yourself what have you put your faith in?

    3.   Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord in vain.

This is about knowing when to speak and not to speak.  Thoughts are things and when we voice them we put in motion energy which has to manifest somewhere.  Since we’re all connected we don’t want to say negative things because the essence of creation is in everyone, any negative diminishes all of us.

    4.    Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

This is about taking a day or at least part of a day for appreciation of the universe around you and seeking a connection to God, Goddess or your Higher Power

    5.       Honour thy mother and father.

This is about honouring the roots you come from and honouring the spiritual Great Mother and Father energies of the universe. It is also about honoring yourself.

    6.       Thou shalt not kill.

Everything is created in harmony and beauty. If you kill spirit you are breaking the potential

    7.       Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Do not adulterate or contaminate your emotions by letting the ego get control.

    8.       Thou shalt not steal.

Stealing is not just about stealing physical items – it is about stealing others’ ideas, stealing time at work – look between the cracks. Seal up your energy cracks to boost your spiritual energy.

    9.       Thou shalt not bear false witness.

Do not gossip or spread false rumors or lie.

    10.     Thou shalt not covet.

When we desire the goods of another or envy what they have, we diminish and make light of what we have and do not honour what we have. This one is also about understanding that this is our path and our  lessons are built into that path.
